Career in Consulting by Bunhourng
“Being a fresh graduate has never been easy; I have been there, done that, myself. So, I understand it’s quite frustrating to know your passion because “you don’t know what you don’t know, and you don’t know what’s good is good until you encounter one”. It is quite challenging to land on the right job in the first time.”
What are some opportunities the fresh graduates can get and develop at EMC?
There are a lot of value propositions EMC could provide to fresh graduates. As a matter of fact, I started at EMC right after I finished my undergraduate degree and have been with the company for the past three years.
Being a fresh graduate has never been easy; I have been there, done that, myself. I understand it’s quite frustrating to know your passion because “you don’t know what you don’t know, and you don’t know what good is good until you encounter one”. So, it is quite challenging to land on the right job for the first time. The process of discovering your passion could be a full of frustration or could even take years to finally arrive at your destination.
Fortunately, consulting allows you to explore passion at one place. Consulting doesn’t limit you to only one specific sector; you will be exposed to different sectors, industries, disciplines, and different types of client profiles. To put it into perspective, consulting will give you the T-shaped skills – the horizontal line of the T represents the breadth of the knowledge (i.e., industry knowledge, market insights, and business intelligence) and the vertical line represents the depth of specific knowledge (i.e., skills such as market research, data analysis, and strategic recommendations development). So, you will be able to develop a broad industry knowledge while sharpening your technical consulting skills.
For those who are always up for the challenge, EMC is the right place. We have quite a diverse culture with a dynamic working environment. We work with people with different backgrounds and nationalities. We place people at the core of the company by promoting lifelong learning for both professional and personal development because we believe by investing in people, we also invest the future our company. So, we have initiated many activities such as: weekly knowledge sharing sessions, regular trainings (in-house and external), buddy system, and sport programs.
Be in a place where I can access to abundant resources, best practices, and work with people who are constantly curious and led by a set of principles is the most rewarding part of EMC. My advice to fresh graduates is to ‘choose a place where you wake up every morning and still feel inspired to go to work’ – Simon Sinek.
